ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. - Kenneth R. Pickren of St. Simons Island died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2006, in Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick. He was 75.
Mr. Pickren was born in Brunswick, son of the late Johnny and Susie Bunkley Pickren.
He was a graduate of Glynn Academy and the Georgia Institute of Technology.
Mr. Pickren was drafted into the Army and played on the United States first Army tennis team while serving for two years.
He was a mechanical engineer for DuPont Corp. in Seaford, Del. for 38 years.
After his retirement, he returned to Glynn County and was active in the community. He worked part-time at Sea Palms Golf Course.
Mr. Pickren was an active member of the Seaford Lions Club and served on the board of directors at Seaford Golf and Country Club for many years. He was also a member of the Sea Palms Men's Golf Association, past president of the Grand Oaks Home Owners Association and a member of St. Simons United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy L. Pickren; a daughter, Kathy Pickren Psota of Salisbury; four sons and a daughter-in-law, Kenneth R. Pickren Jr. of Ocean View, Del., James D. Pickren of Denver, Steve W. Simmons of Arlington, Va. and Brian W. and Betsy Simmons of Newark, Del.; a sister, Evelyn Pickren Cisneroz of San Leandro, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Ryan Psota, Evan Psota, Riley Pickren, Cooper Pickren, Davis Pickren, Hana Simmons and Makena Simmons; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Simons United Methodist Church Sanctuary. The Rev. Jim Smith will officiate.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Sea Palms Golf personnel, Sea Palms MGA, Dr. Kellogg and Dr. Grubb.
