DOVER - Kay M. Castell passed away peacefully on Jan. 17, 2018. She was surrounded by family and her husband of 65 years.
Kay was born July 10, 1931 in Providence, R.I. to the late Thomas Emmett Moorhead and Daisy Maude Mitchell Moorhead.
Miss Kay worked as a hostess at the Chick-fil-A in Dover for 15 years. Prior to that she worked for many years as a church secretary in Havertown, Pa.
Both she and husband Mel were very active members of St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Dover since 1993. Resurrection Lutheran Church in Havertown, Pa. was their previous place of worship for more than 30 years.
Kay was a beloved member of the local community through numerous volunteer activities with Modern Maturity, the Lions Club and St. Andrews Church. She loved music and sang in the church choir along with the Bell Choir. One of her favorite musical pursuits was the string bands especially watching them on New Years Day.
Her vibrant smile and love of laughter will forever be remembered by those who knew her.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, C. Melvin Castell; sons, Thomas Emmett Castell (Donna) of Lunenburg, Mass., Roy Mitchell Castell (Robin) of Tampa, Fla., and Robert Anton Castell (Beth Ann) of Drexel Hill, Pa.; daughter, Ann Castell Altemus (Ed Pedrick) of Newark; grandchildren, James and RT (Meg), Alec, Erik, Nicole, Jaclyn, Tom and Emilie.
The family wishes to extend many thanks and appreciation for the support and caring of the staff at Bayhealth/Kent General Hospital and Delaware Hospice.
Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 22, 2018 at St. Andrews Lutheran Church, 425 North Dupont Highway, Dover, DE 19901. On Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018 at 10 a.m., a Remembrance will be held at Westminster Village.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Andrews Lutheran Church or the Westminster Village Benevolent Support Fund, 191 Westminster Drive, Dover, DE 19904.
Letters of condolences may be sent and guestbook signed at www.torbertfuneral.com
