Kathy Jo Amerha Queen, 50
MAGNOLIA - Kathy Jo Amerha Queen of Magnolia died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover after a long illness. Her husband and children were by her side. She was 50.
Mrs. Queen was born Jan. 19, 1956, in Lansing, Mich., daughter of Joan Merchant Jungel and the late Glenn Merchant.
She was educated at Paw Paw High School in Paw Paw, Mich.
She enjoyed learning and later in life attended Delaware Technical & Community College where she trained to become a dental hygienist. She also worked as a medical transcriber.
Mrs. Queen was employed in several different capacities, but found her greatest joy in her hobbies. She was the owner and operator of Kathy"s Kraft Kloset. She was well-known for creating beautiful, hand-made items including macramé, holiday wreathes, ornaments, home décor and jewelry. She frequently participated in "kraft" shows and often sold her products at area flea markets and special events. Her products were of top quality and in high demand.
She married the love of her life, George T. Queen, May 9, 1987, and shared 19 wonderful years together.
Mrs. Queen had a caring nature and giving personality. She quickly made friends and eagerly did anything she could for other people. Often this would range from hosting neighborhood sporting events to putting her heart into her family"s activities.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brother, Michael Merchant.
She is survived by her loving husband of 19 years, George T. Queen of Magnolia; two daughters, Capt. Kellie Kent of San Antonio, and Bilonna Queen of Magnolia; a son, Chad Hassler; her mother, Joan Jungel of Paw Paw; a stepdaughter, Talena Queen of Dover; a stepson, George Queen Jr. of Magnolia; a son-in-law, Samuel Kent IV of San Antonio; a brother, Charles Merchant of Columbia, S.C.; a sister, Veanca Tortorelli of Paw Paw; six grandchildren, Talena, Delia, D"ianesha, Samuel, Matthew and Arielle; her father-in-law, George S. Queen of Glen Burnie, Md.; her mother-in-law, Mabel Matthews of Matthewstown, Md.; her stepmother-in-law, Barbara Queen of Glen Burnie; her stepfather-in-law, James Matthews of Matthewstown; three sisters-in-law, Iantha Brown of Annapolis, Md., Cynthia Queen of Glen Burnie and Kim Matthews of Matthewstown; two brothers-in-law, Tony Tortorelli of Paw Paw and V. Keith Brown of Annapolis; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today in Bennie Smith Funeral Home, 717 W. Division Street, Dover.
Services will be 9 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Delaware Veteran"s Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
