Kathleen Moore Raver, 94

FINKSBURG, Md. - Homemaker, dietician and teacher Kathleen Moore Raver of Finksburg died Friday, Aug. 31, 2007, of natural causes. She was 94.

Mrs. Raver was born May 5, 1913, in Denton, daughter of James Virgil and Edith (West) Moore.

A 1929 graduate of Caroline High School, she graduated from Western Maryland College in 1933. After further study in nutrition at Penn State, she was a student dietician at The Johns Hopkins Hospital School of Dietetics where she studied with Dr. Elmer V. McCollum and his wife Ernestine Becker McCollum. On the staff of the hospital as a dietician for several years, she returned to Western Maryland College as the dietician in 1937.

In 1938, Mrs. Raver married Milson C. Raver, who died in 1991.

Mrs. Raver taught nutrition and "Diet in Disease" at the college for some years.

A Red Cross volunteer during World War II and the Korean War, she taught nutrition to civilians who were using ration cards and Victory Gardens.

For some years, she was on the Girl Scout Board of Central Maryland.

Mrs. Raver was a member of the Emory Methodist Church of Upperco, Maryland"s Chapter C of the PEO, a philanthropic organization interested in the education of women, the Caroline County Chapter of The Women"s Eastern Shore Society of Maryland, the Carroll County Historical Society and the Maryland Historical Society.

She is survived by one son and two daughters, James Moore Raver, Martha R. Carlson and Anne Raver; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and one brother, Charles Virgil Moore.

She was predeceased by her son, M. Carroll Raver; and her brother, Robert J. Moore.

The interment will be private.

The family will receive friends at the Emory United Methodist Church, 1600 Emory Road, Upperco, on Saturday at noon.The church bell will be tolled for her 94 years.

Instead of flowers, the family requests sending memorial donations to McDaniel College, formerly Western Maryland College, 2 College Hill, Westminster, MD 21157.
