PARSONSBURG, Md. - Katherine Townsend Layfield of Parsonsburg died Friday, June 22, 2007, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury. She was 86.
Born in Siloam, she was the daughter of the late Murray E. and Alice (Adams) Townsend.
Katherine worked as a cashier at Acme for more than 30 years and was an avid bingo player at McDonalds.
Her memberships include Women of the Moose, Golden Senior of Moose, the retirement group of Acme, AARP, Happy Timers, United Methodist Women and a member of Zion United Methodist Church.
Katherine is survived by one daughter, Janice Winkler of Felton; one son, James N. Green Jr. of Milford; her stepchildren, Walter H. Layfield Jr., James R. Layfield and Betty Scarborough; her grandchildren, Jill Gray, James Steven Green, Vince Winkler, Jodi Pries and Kimberly Shafer; several great-grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Cartha Jenkins; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Green and Mattie Townsend; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, James Norman Green Sr.; her second husband, Walter H. Layfield Sr.; a sister, Beatrice Middleton; her brothers, William Townsend and Floyd Townsend; and her nephews, William Townsend and Ralph Jenkins.
A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury. There will be a visitation Sunday, from 6 to 8 p.m., and Monday one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Wes Davis will officiate. Interment will be on Monday at Wicomico Memorial Park in Salisbury.
