Juan Manuel Salazar Martell, 46
LINCOLN - Juan Manuel Salazar Martell, of Lincoln, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2007, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital. He was 46.
Mr. Martell was born June 30, 1960, in Mexico, son of Socorro Martell Maltos and Celestino Salazar Mendoza.
Juan worked for Vlasic Pickle Co., Millsboro until becoming ill.
Juan was a member of the Church of God (Israelite) in Milford. He used to serve as pastor to the church "La Senda Antigua" in Millsboro. Juan was a good, God loving, caring man.
He would give anyone the shirt off his back if he could. When someone needed a ride somewhere, Juan was there to take them. He had no limits to how he would help people in need, no matter what race, creed or nationality.
He was an excellent cook and would cook for hours. He made huge feasts to make sure everyone had enough to eat.
Juan was a very good and loving son, husband, father and grandfather and always looked forward to spending time with all of his family. Since Juan was little, he would always be there to help the rest of his brothers and sisters. Being the oldest, he was a father figure and role model to all of his brothers and sisters as well as his grandson, who he always spoiled.
He was always joyful, playful, kind and was the type of man who could cheer everyone up and always made the best of every situation that he would encounter. When he saw something was not right, he would step in and correct it. He was very friendly, honest and could always be trusted. When he greeted you, he always would say, "y a su nombre gloria!"
He had a special gift to bring everyone together when they were at odds. Juan was always happy, but when he went a long period of time without food, he would get moody. His family says that when Jesus Christ comes for the second time, they hope to see Juan in the second coming of Jesus Christ. They thank God that he had to opportunity to see his grandson.
He is survived by his wife, Francisca Lara Espinoza of Monterrey, Mexico; a son, Israel Salazar of Lincoln; three daughters, Rachel Salazar of Seaford, Esther Salazar of Lincoln and Ana Elizabeth Salazar of Monterrey; his parents, Celestino Salazar Mendoza of Monterrey and Socorro Martell Maltos of Lincoln; four brothers, Antonio Ramos Martell of Magnolia, Alfredo Ramos Martell and David Ramos Martell, both of Texas, and Rafael Ramos Martell of Monterrey; four sisters, Margarita Salazar Martell of Mississippi, Martha E. Salazar Martell of Monterrey, Adela M. Ramos Martell and Esperanza Ramos Martell, both of Lincoln; and a grandson, Zabdiel Juan Gil Salazar.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Ave., Milford, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Friends may also call Monday from 6-9 p.m. in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Barratt's Chapel Cemetery, Bay Road, Frederica.
