DOVER - Josephine R. Gemberling passed away February 3, 2022 at home with her family at her side.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Frederick Joseph and Josephine Mary Bessau (Mahar) - Nana.
She moved to Dover in 1972. Over the years she was a homemaker and later worked at the Delaware State News as a mailroom clerk.
Her hobbies were shopping, yoga, and tai chi, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Josephine was preceded in death by one brother, Frederick Bessau; seven sisters, Mary Condon, Eileen Masiello, Patricia Marren, Gloria Falcone, Delores Cannucci, Joan Umbria, Claire Reid; husband, William J. Gemberling; and son, Edward Murphy.
She is survived by two children, Patricia Murphy Boesenberg of Dover, Del. and Paul Gemberling (Kim) of North Carolina; one sister, Elizabeth Gerard of Rockton, Ill.; and grandchildren, Jessica Boesenberg, Joshua Boesenberg (Christen), Jared Boesenberg (Samantha), Jenna Boesenberg-Moffitt, and Katelynn Gemberling; great grandchildren, Andrew Boesenberg, Matthew Boesenberg, Briana Boesenberg-Price, Lola Boesenberg, Piper Boesenberg, Marley Boesenberg, Wyatt Boesenberg, Bayleigh Boesenberg, Willow Moffitt, and Sawyer Moffitt.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated by Fr. Dennis Condon, nephew of Josephine, 12 p.m., Wed., Feb. 9, 2022 at The Church of the Holy Cross, 631 S. State St. Dover. Visitation will be held 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to Mass at The Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, 1175 S. State St. Dover. Interment will be 10 a.m. February 25, 2022 in The Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, Del.
Family suggests donations in her memory to St. Jude's Children Hospital www.stjude.org.
