He was born April 2, 1943 in Adams, Mass., and is the son of the late Joseph and Carmen Bassi. He proudly served his country with honor in the National Guard. He was a member of the Italian Society of Keene, N.H. and a life member of the Elks Lodge, serving in both Keene, N.H. and Dover, Del. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and was a passionate Yankees and Patriots fan, yet most of all, Poppy enjoyed spending time with his family, whom he loved and adored. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his older brother, Peter Bassi. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Paula; his three children, Kimberly Schlichting and her husband David of Smyrna, Del., Joseph Bassi of Wichita, Kan. and his special angel, Scott Bassi of Smyrna; five grandchildren, Jessica Hom, Joshua Schlichting, Lyn Marie Boulanger, Kyle Bassi and Travis Bassi; three great-grandchildren, Cora Schlichting, Asher Boulanger and Isabella Hom; and his younger brother, Michael Bassi of Adams, Mass. A visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 30, 2015 at 2 p.m. in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main St. in Smyrna.
