MILLSBORO - Joseph E. R. Short,Sr., 78, Gunner's Mate Third Class, of Millsboro, Del., died Thursday, Aug. 4, 2011 at home. He was born in Oakley, Del., son of the late Wm. H. Short, Jr. and Josephine R. Kneer Short. He was preceded in death by his brother William Short. Mr. Short was self employed in the tree business. One of his most proudest achievements, was serving in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict, upon the Newport News 148. He achieved Gunner's Mate Third Class and was so proud to serve his country. He was a member of the N.R.A. and loved to fish, however his greatest love was duck hunting. He learned to carve ducks and made his own decoys. He also sold many of his decoys throughout the East Coast. He is survived by his wife, Winifred H. Short; one son, Joseph E.R. Short, Jr. (Ret. Mil.) and his wife Fran from West Point, KY; one sister, Elma Parsons; and a step son, Billy Lee Webb. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Aug. 8, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Berry Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front Street, where freinds may call from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. Interment will be Lincoln Cemetery, Lincoln , DE. In leiu of flowers the family request contributions to the Vitas Hospice 1016 N. Walnut St. Milford, DE 19963.
