DENTON, Md. - Joseph A Holland of Denton died Friday, Jan. 4, 2008, at the Caroline Home for Hospice, Denton. He was 83.
Born in Concordia, Kan., Mr. Holland was the son of the late Clifton E. Holland and Clara (Huggerth) Holland.
He was a life member and past commodore of the Choptank River Yacht Club, Denton. He loved boating, fishing and traveling.
Mr. Holland was the maintenance foreman at the Caroline Poultry Plant, Denton, for 22 years. He then worked for the Caroline County Roads Department for 10 years, retiring in 1986.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Clifton E. Holland Jr.; and two sisters, Edith Riggleman and Vera Parsons.
Mr. Holland is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Sylvia K. Holland of Denton; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Lynn Miller and Donald A. "Pete" Miller of Denton; two grandsons, Alan J. Miller and J. Kevin Miller and his wife Joy, all of Salisbury; two great-grandchildren, Luke Miller and Jenna Miller; and one sister, Janice E. Minnick of Easton.
The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Moore Funeral Home, 12 S. Second St., Denton, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Denton Cemetery.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests sending memorial donations to the Caroline Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 362, Denton, MD 21629.
