John Z. 'Big John' Yaruth, 76

GREENWOOD - John Z. "Big John" Yaruth of Greenwood, formerly of Dover and Rehoboth Beach, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008, at the Country Rest Home, Greenwood. He was 76.

Mr. Yaruth was born Sept. 13, 1931, in Dedham, Mass., son of the late Zenon Yaruth and Veronica (Sinkevitch) Yaruth.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.

Mr. Yaruth then worked as a sheet metal foreman in civil service at Dover Air Force Base until his retirement.

He enjoyed traveling, sailing, surf fishing and just being at the beach.

Mr. Yaruth was very active with the Rehoboth Beach Sailing Association throughout the 1970s and 1980s, and was a fixture at many of the beach area restaurants and clubs.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Olga Yaruth.

Although his family preceded him in death, he is survived by a multitude of dear friends.

Graveside services will be held 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Lakeside Cemetery, Dover.
