DOVER - John Webster Riggle joined his wife of 47 years on Feb. 17, 2011, when he passed away at the age of 87 years old, with his faithful caretaker and friend, Nancy Osburn, by his side. He was born Feb. 6, 1924, in Painesville, Ohio, to John James and Margie Jane Webster Riggle. John had three great loves in his life, the first being his wife, Stella-Margaret Gassler Riggle who passed away in April of 1995. He missed her fiercely his remaining years. His second love was traveling with his wife through Europe and to any location E.I. DuPont sent him to work. John's third great love was his beloved cats which kept him busy with their constant training and feeding rituals. He also had a great fondness for his cars and was proud of his trophies from his favorite Pontiac. John had a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie Tech, Master of Science in Chemical Engineering from University of Michigan and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Delaware. He went to work for E.I. DuPont right out of the University of Michigan in 1946, at their Wilmington, Delaware location. In 1964, when he transferred to Newburgh and Old Hickory, Tenn., and worked there until 1969, when he transferred to Victoria, Texas, where he and Stella-Margaret enjoyed bird watching and joined the Trail Club. In 1973, John transferred to Falls in New York where he learned to love the snow and stayed until he retired from DuPont in August of 1982, at which time he and Stella-Margaret returned to Delaware with their cat, Im. He loved telling stories of all of his and Stella-Margaret's travels. John would tell anyone that would listen how to live longer and he lived what he preached, living his entire life with diabetes. He did not let the disease slow him, he rode his bicycle and worked out with hand weights almost daily. John also loved his weekly phone calls discussing economics, stocks and investments, politics and the weather with his property managers and friends at Woolson Real Estate in Victoria, Texas. John will be missed by all his adopted family and friends everywhere.
