LEIPSIC - John W. Carey, III, "Jackie" passed away peacefully on January 15, 2023, surrounded by his family.
Jackie was born on August 1, 1942, in Dover, Delaware the son of the late John and Elizabeth Carey both of Leipsic.
Jackie started work at the age of 16 on the oyster and crab boats in Leipsic. His father taught him to trap muskrat and rabbits at a young age. He was a member of the Army Reserves for 6 years as a 5th Class Publications Specialist. In 1964 he left the water and began his career at General Foods retiring after 38 years. After retirement, he once again returned to crab the Leipsic waterways.
Jackie was a life member of the Leipsic Fire Company with 60 years of service and a Fire Police. He also belonged to the Masonic Lodge and Camden Moose Lodge.
Jackie is survived by his partner of 22 years, Carolyn Wisk; daughters, Christine Foxwell (Billy) of Milford and J. Renee Griffith (J.R.) of Milford; grandchildren, Phillip, Joey, Jace, Michael, Mason and Tyler all of Milford; his beloved puppies, Queenie, Missy and Marty.
Pop-Pop Jack loved teaching his grandkids about hunting and fishing. Babysitting, Dairy Queen, trips to the beach and sightseeing car rides were some of the fun things he liked to do.
A viewing will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Funeral Service will begin at 3 p.m. and a Bereavement Dinner at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at Leipsic Volunteer Fire Company, 318 Main Street, Leipsic, Delaware 19901. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Leipsic Volunteer Fire Company or Bayada Hospice.
