John R. 'Johnny' Mulford Jr., 65
GALENA, Md. - John R. "Johnny" Mulford Jr. of Galena died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007, in Union Hospital, Elkton. He was 65.
Mr. Mulford was born Dec. 20, 1941, son of the late John Raymond Sr. and Hilda Boyd Mulford.
Johnny was a lifetime resident of Galena and a 1959 graduate of Galena High School.
Following high school he worked, with his uncle, for the duPonts at Winterthur Farms in Wilmington, Del.
In 1984 he began John R. Mulford and Son, a local contracting business, retiring in 2003.
Mr. Mulford was a life member of Galena Volunteer Fire Co., where he was a past treasurer.
Mr. Mulford was a Galena Town Council member from 1979 to 1986, then serving as their mayor from 1986 to 1992.
He was a member of Olivet United Methodist Church, holding numerous positions including Sunday school superintendent, trustee, lay leader and choir director.
He was also past member and president of Galena Lions Club.
Mr. Mulford was preceded in death by his sister, Anna T. 'Punch' Ringgold in January 2007.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Joanne Garrett Mulford; a son, Joe Mulford and his wife Carole of Galena; two daughters, Betsy Beals and her husband Bill and Debby Long and her husband Greg, all of Chestertown; a sister, Charlotte Wallace and her husband Harry of Brandon, Miss.; a brother-in-law, Roger Ringgold of Galena; seven grandsons, Trevor and Tannor Mulford, Tyler, Casey and Ryan Beals, Griffin and Austin Long; and one granddaughter, Amber Long.
Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Sunday in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena, where funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Larry Jameson officiating.
Burial in Galena Cemetery.
