John Oliver Wooleyhan, 82
John Oliver Wooleyhan of Hockessin, formerly of New Castle, passed away Thursday, March 22, 2007, in Regal Heights Nursing Home, Hockessin. He was 82.
Mr. Wooleyhan was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving in World War II.
He farmed in the Middletown area for many years. Afterwards, he was employed by American Hoescht Inc. in Delaware City for 20 years until his retirement in 1991. He took much pleasure as a part-time deliveryman with Jamison Florist in New Castle.
Mr. Wooleyhan, in his spare time, enjoyed many hobbies, including caring for his pets, gardening, word puzzles and collecting and selling Depression glass at local flea markets.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Pearl (Short) Wooleyhan; and four brothers.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Elizabeth A. (Beck) Wooleyhan; two stepdaughters, Carlene E. Embert of Smyrna and Diane M. Bruce of Lincoln University, Pa.; a stepson, Raymond C. Paxton of Hockessin; a sister, Louise Carland of Wilmington; two beloved granddaughters, Jennifer M. Bruce and L. Anne Bruce, both of Newark; two grandsons, James L. Moore and Eric C. Moore; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his many friends at Regal Heights Nursing Home.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Daniels and Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in Old Drawyers Cemetery.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Faithful Friends, 3 Germay Drive, Suite 4, Wilmington, DE 19804.
