John "Jack" O. Quillen Sr., 74

DENTON, Md. - John "Jack" O. Quillen, Sr. of Denton died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006, in St. Joseph"s Hospital, Baltimore. He was 74.

Mr. Quillen was born in Preston, son of the late Edward Clayton Quillen and Alverta Rebecca Rogers Quillen.

He was a graduate of Caroline High School.

Mr. Quillen was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served in Korea during the Korean War and then Japan.

He owned and operated Quillen Refrigeration from 1964 to 2001. He was working for Coldmaster Refrigeration Service in Preston at the time of his death.

Mr. Quillen was a member of the Caroline American Legion Post 29 and the Greensboro VFW Memorial Post 7937. He was a past president, past secretary, and life member of Denton Volunteer Fire Co. and was a past president of Caroline County Volunteer Fireman"s Association. He was a past master and past secretary of Temple Lodge No. 128 Ancient Free & Accepted Masons, Denton, a past grand inspector and past grand junior grand steward of the Grand Lodge of A.F. & A.M. of Maryland, a member of the Mid-Shore Past Masters Association, past high priest of Edenton Royal Arch Chapter No. 36, Denton, a past grand high priest and grand representative of Nevada of the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Maryland, past thrice illustrious master of Adoniram Council No. 21, Denton, past grand treasurer and past grand representative of Ohio of the Grand Council of Royal and Select Masters of Maryland, present Jr. warden of Chesapeake Commandery No. 10, Denton, past patron of Caroline Chapter No. 62, Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Boumi Shrine Temple, Baltimore and a past president of the Eastern Shore Shrine Club. He was a member of the York Rite College No. 58, the Red Cross of Constantine, the Knight Masons, and the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, Southern Jourisdiction, USA.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a child.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lois Y. Quillen; a son and a daughter-in-law, John O. Jr. and Brenda Quillen of Harmony; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Cheryl A. and Wayne Anthony of Camden, Del. and Becky and Joe Schoonover of Preston; six grandchildren, Allen Anthony, Beth Anthony, Ashley Quillen, Greg Schoonover, Julie Schoonover, and Joanna Schoonover; three sisters, Peggy Blades of Denton, Dorothy Schyler of Denton, and Edwina Sloane of Harrington, Del.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Moore Funeral Home, PA, 12 S. Second St., Denton.

Masonic Memorial Service will be 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home, where friends may call one hour earlier.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Denton Volunteer Fire Co., 400 S. Fifth Ave., Denton, MD 21629; or Shriners" Hospitals for Children, Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607-1460.
