GREENWOOD - John Henry McCall, 88, of Greenwood, passed away Monday, Sept. 14, 2009, at Bayhealth Medical Center in Milford. He is the son of the late John Thomas McCall and Marie (Noll) McCall. He was preceded in death by his son, Elmer J. Taylor; and sister, Gloria Merkel. Mr. McCall was employed by Hooker Chemical Company for 11 yrs as a Maintenance welder retiring in 1984. He was a Veteran in Army and served our country during World War II receiving the military order of The Purple Heart. He was the oldest member of the Military order of the Cootie since 1946 in N.J and DE. He also was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War in Milford, he was part of the 2nd Infantry Division and Mid-Atlantic Veterans, Inc., and he is a member of the Amity Lodge of Free Masons in Indiana. Mr. McCall was very proud of the things he welded some of which went into outer space. He really enjoyed making things out of wood; he has made chairs, horses and a spiral marble game for his great-grandchildren. He also loved animals helped to feed birds and maintained a certified wildlife habitat and preserve for birds, cats and butterflies since 1994 in the state of Delaware. He is survived by his wife, Grace (Kolchner) McCall; his two daughters, Thelma Johns of Taylors, S.C., and Dorothy Slusarski of Buena Vista, N.J.; stepdaughter, Sally DiFronza of National Park, N.J.; grandson, James Parker; granddaughter, Lee Ann Hale; five great-grandchildren, Alysia, Sylena, Scott, Timothy, and Amanda. Funeral services were Monday, Sept. 21, at Berry-Short Funeral Home, 119 NW Front St., Milford. The Masonic Service began at 10:30 a.m. and was also a service by the Milford Order of the Cootie. Interment will be at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Bear.
