SUDLERSVILLE, Md. - John Elliott "Johnny" George of Sudlersville died Monday, July 30, 2007, at his home. He was 68.
He was born in Sudlersville on Oct. 23, 1938, the son of the late John Elliott George Sr., who predeceased him in 2000, and Lucy Cruikshank George of Sudlersville.
Mr. George graduated from Sudlersville High School class of 1956 and Goldey Beacom College in 1959.
He married Penny Krams in 1958 they lived in Sudlersville where he worked at Sudlersville Supply Co. which he later owned and operated until selling the business to Southern States.
Throughout his lifetime, Mr. George worked on the family"s farms in Sudlersville and the surrounding area.
In 1982, he started J & P Hunting Lodge and in 1988 added Sporting Clays to their services.
The family owned and operated the business until October of 2006 when he retired.
He was a member of Ducks Unlimited, the National Rifle Association, and various hunting and shooting organizations.
Mr. George enjoyed playing golf, fishing, boating, gardening, shooting and hunting.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by two daughters, Tamara Kay Smith and her husband, David, Kathi G. Levan and her husband, Daniel J., all of Sudlersville; a sister, Lucy Kimble of Sudlersville; a brother, Joseph C. George of Millsboro; and three grandchildren, Jonathon C. Levan and his wife, Heather, Sarah K. Levan, and Megan E. Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home, 130 Speer Road Chestertown, Md., where relatives and friends may call on Thursday between the hours of 7 and 9 p.m. Interment will be in Sudlersville Cemetery.
Instead of flowers, contributions may be made to Chester River Home Care and Hospice, 6602 Church Hill Road, Suite 300, Chestertown, MD 21620; or to Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation, P.O. Box 34885, Alexandria, VA 22334-0885.
