John Edward 'Ed' Spray
LYNCH, Md. - John Edward "Ed" Spray, of Lynch, died March 17, 2009, in Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore. He was 63. Mr. Spray was born on April 2, 1945, son of M. Geneva Woodall Spray of Chestertown and the late Robert C. Spray Sr. He was a lifetime resident of Kent County where he graduated from Chestertown High School in 1963. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years as an airplane mechanic. Mr. Spray worked for Maryland State Highway Administration retiring after 30 years, and for 9 years he worked as Superintendent of Kent County Roads, retiring in 2008. He was a life member of Frank M. Jarman American Legion Post 36 and the Chesapeake City VFW and a member of the Fr. George S. Bradford Council Knights of Columbus. Along with his father he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Yiannakis; and a brother, Thomas Spray Sr. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Jane Armstrong Spray; three children, John E. Spray Jr. and his wife Andrea of Chestertown, Beth M. Sherwood and her husband Daniel of Eagle River, Alaska, and Donald F. Spray and his wife Rebecca of Kennedyville; four brothers, Robert C. Spray Jr. of Chestertown, Frank Spray of Centreville, Charles Spray and David Spray, both of Chestertown; three sisters, Ann Wahlert of Texas, Marie Spray, and Jane Yiannakis, both of Chestertown; and two grandchildren, Justin and Alicia Golden. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, March 22, in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday, March 23, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 508 High St., Chestertown. Burial in Chester Cemetery. Memorials may be offered to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Maryland, c/o the funeral home.
