John B. Myers, 89

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - John B. Myers, of Chestertown, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008, at VA Maryland Health Care, Perry Point. He was 89.

Mr. Myers was born Oct. 12, 1918, in Philadelphia, to the late Jesse and Anna (Barrett) Myers.

He was raised in Philadelphia and in 1943 enlisted with the U.S. Army, was stationed in England during World War II, and served until 1946.

He stayed in England for several years, where he was a photographer.

He returned to the States and worked as a freelance writer locally for the Cecil Whig, where he had a weekly column "Poet's Podium."

Mr. Myers lived in Kent County since 1978.

He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Myers.

He is survived by three children, Deirdra "DD" Cope of California, David Myers of England and Avra Myers of Chestertown; and two grandsons.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., where friends may call after noon.

Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Earleville.

Memorials may be offered the Humane Society of Kent County, 10720 Augustine Herman Highway, Chestertown, MD 21620.
