Clayton - John Alda Robbins died at his home Saturday, June 28, 2014. John Alda Robbins was born December 6, 1925 in Millington, MD the son of the late John E. Robbins and Alda "Hurd" Robbins. Mr. Robbins attended Millington High School and then enlisted in the United States Merchant Marines where he served his country in World War II. After an honorable discharge he returned home and went to work for Coca Cola as a truck driver. While working for Coca Cola, Mr. Robbins enjoyed playing on their softball team. He married his wife of 58 years, Doris "Cannon" Robbins on December 23, 1955. After leaving Coca Cola he then went to work for Anchor Motor Freight as a driver and retired from there in 1986. Mr. Robbins was a member of the Smyrna Weslyan Church. After his retirement he worked for Willis Ford where he drove parts for them. Mr. Robbins enjoyed remodeling old houses and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Doris "Cannon" Robbins of Clayton, DE, one son, John "Jack" Robbins Jr. of Smyrna, DE, two daughters, Laurie Swiski and husband Joseph of Dover, DE, Robin David of Smyrna, DE, one grandchild, Jeremy English and wife Laura of Magnolia, DE, one great grandchild, Jeremy Cole English of Magnolia, DE and three nieces, Virginia Ellingsworth of Millington, MD, Beverly Dadds of Centreville, MD, and Joyce Bloodsworth of Centreville, MD. Services will be held on Monday, July 7, 2014 at 1pm at Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home 370 Cypress St. Millington, MD. A visitation will be held from 11am to 1pm at the Funeral home. Interment will follow services at Millington Asbury Cemetery in Millington,MD. In lieu of flowers contributions can be sent to the Smyrna Weslyan Church, 433 Commerce St. Smyrna, DE 19977 or to Paws for Life, P.O.Box 407 Chesapeake City, MD 21915.
