NEWARK - Joanne C. Altemus, passed away on July 22, 2009, at Heartland Hospice House. A lifelong resident of New Castle County, Joanne was the daughter of the late Robert and the late Sara Conly. She retired from the State of DE Department of Labor in 2004 after many years of service. Joanne loved camping with her family and friends and was a member of the First State Campers of FCRV and the Delaware Rolling Wheels. After retirement, Joanne enjoyed spending time at the Newark Senior Center and participating in their trip activities. Joanne was preceded in death by her husband Harry of 47 years. She is survived by her son Gregory and his wife Karyn along with many in laws, nieces and nephews. Joanne's family wishes to thank the doctors and staff of Medical Oncology and Hematology for their hard work and dedication. A viewing for Joanne will be held on Tuesday, July 28, from 6-8 p.m. in the McCrery Memorial Chapel, 3710 Kirkwood Highway Wilmington. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Silverbrook Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to the Helen Graham Cancer Center, 4701 Ogletown-Stanton Road, Newark, De. 19713 or the Heartland Hospice House, 5661 Ochletree Lane, Wilmington, DE 19808.
