Joan E. Gillen Golden
Joan E. Gillen Golden passed away, September 17, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was born August 31, 1935, in Wilmington Delaware, daughter of the late James and Mildred (Hammerer) Gillen.
She married Bobby Golden on December 5, 1953 and together they had three children. Being an Air Force wife she traveled extensively within the United States and Japan. She retired in 1999 to the Villages in Florida where she enjoyed golfing and spending time with friends. One of her greatest golfing achievements was making two hole in ones. After an illness she moved back to Delaware in 2005 to be with her family.
In her final years she loved volunteering for the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, trips to the beach and spending time with her friends.
In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her son, Bobby J. Golden, Jr. and two brothers, Harry and James Gillen.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Deborah Golden (Kenneth) and Cynthia Golden (Mike), daughter-in-law Mary Golden; grandchildren, Jessica Davis (David), Steffan Bradford (Shelby), Logan Bradford, Amy Hutchins (Caleb), and Kyle Golden; three great grandchildren, Rhett and Brooklyn Davis and Alexander Bradford; and one sister, Elaine Nitsche (Joseph); in addition to many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, 2023 with a Celebration of Life service starting at 6:30 p.m. at The Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, 1175 South State Street, Dover, DE. Interment will be private. To share a fond memory of Joan or to offer a condolence to her family, please visit ambruso.com.
