Joan D. McKnatt, 88 HARRINGTON - Mary Joan Denney McKnatt, of Harrington, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, in the Country Rest Home, Greenwood, surrounded by her loving family. She was 88. She was born in Wilmington, the daughter of the late Herbert C. and Emma (Bradley) Denney. Joan was a graduate of Harrington High School class of 1938 and a graduate of the Philadelphia Beauty School, Pa. Joan was a homemaker and a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Harrington, where she was a choir mother. Joan was a member of the CKRT Post 7 American Legion Auxiliary, a former Den Leader of the Girl Scouts, a member of the Harrington Senior Center, the Harrington High School Alumni Association, belonged to a bridge club and worked at the Delaware State Fair for several years. Mrs. McKnatt loved spending time with her family, especially attending her great-grandchildren's sporting events and enjoyed taking and collecting pictures of her great-grandchildren. Joan loved nature and enjoyed being around the water especially going to Big Stone Beach. She was a dog lover and had many over the years, with her favorite being her bulldogs. Joan enjoyed being involved in the community, watching parades and other events that took place in town and lived life to the fullest and enjoyed being with people. Eating chocolate ice cream was one of her favorite treats. Those who knew Joan, found that she did not like change for the sake of change especially when things were the way she liked it. Joan is survived by her husband of 67 years, Kenneth McKnatt; a daughter, Kenna Jo Adams and her husband David; her grandchildren, Dana Sipple of Felton and Kelly Sipple and her husband Kevin of Felton; her great-grandchildren, Tyler Sipple, Christopher Sipple, Ryan Sipple and Sarah Sipple and her special friend Rachel Fuller of Oakland, Calif. She also enjoyed a close relationship with her daughter Kenna's in-laws, the Adams Family. Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m., tonight, in the McKnatt, Carpenter & Baker Funeral Home, 50 Commerce Street, Harrington, where friends may visit with the family from 5 to 6 p.m. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
