SEAFORD - Jennings Hirman Spicer passed away on Friday, July 27, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Seaford, he is the son of the late Shelly Orlando Spicer, Sr., and Maude Virginia Wright Spicer. Jennings graduated from Seaford High School and after graduation he proudly served his country in the United States Army and later in the United States Airforce Reserves during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star. He worked for the E. I. DuPont company for over forty years and retired as a Quality Assurance Supervisor. Jennings was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was a 32 Degree Mason. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #6, a founding member of the Seaford Swim Association, a founding member of the Nanticoke River Yacht Club, Kiwanis Club of Seaford, St. John's United Methodist Church, and a past member of the Seaford Volunteer Fire Department. He is survived by his daughter, Anne Elizabeth Spicer and her partner Susan J. Schandel of Seaford; three brothers, Shelly O. Spicer, Jr. of Seaford, Arnold Spicer of Easton, and Maynard Spicer of Seaford. In addition to his parents, Jennings was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ann Marie Spicer; his son, Jon Jennings Spicer; and his sister, Inez Morgan. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2018 at 1 p.m. at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, Delaware 19966. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St. John's United Methodist Church, 300 Pine Street, Seaford, DE 19973. After the memorial service, their will be a time of food and fellowship at the Yacht Club at 12 p.m. for friends and family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mr. Spicer's memory to St. John's United Methodist Church, 300 North Pine Street, Seaford, DE 19973. Arrangements are in the care of the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home in Laurel.
