Jean Griffith

ASHLAND, Ohio - Jean L. Griffith passed away Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017 at Lutheran Village. She was born June 14, 1927 in Nankin, the daughter of Raymond and Mildred (Sigrist) Lutz. She was a 1945 graduate of Ashland High School. Mrs. Griffith had been employed with the FBI in Washington, D.C. and Cleveland, Ohio from 1946 till 1951, while Jay Edger Hoover while was in office; she later worked for Hess & Clark as a switchboard operator, and later retired from the Ashland University. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she active with the Friendship Class for 62 years. Mrs. Griffith had been a volunteer for Samaritan Hospital for 60 years along with various other organizations. She enjoyed her weekly card clubs and traveling with her husband across with the United States, along with several other countries, including the Caribbean, China, Denmark, Australia and Japan. On Dec. 19, 1948, Jean married Herbert "Grif" L. Griffith who preceded her in death on Oct. 25, 2006. Jean was also preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her daughters, Susan (Glendon) McClure, of Ashland, Ohio, Sharon (Robert) Moneysmith, of Ontario, Ohio and Sally (Robert) Kepfer, of Felton; her grandchildren, Greg (Kathleen) McClure, Tim McClure, Ben McClure, David Moneysmith, Sunni Kepfer, Melissa (Mike) Ipock, and Katie (Tom) Superdock; her great-grandchildren, Ian, Kayla, Sarah, Madison, Hailey, Ava, Noah, Evan, Austin and Ryan; along with her sister, Annette Lance, of Winston Salem, N.C. There will be a private family service at Nankin Cemetery. There will be a Celebration of Life service held later in the spring. Heyl Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Samaritan Hospital Foundation in Jean's memory, 663 E. Main St., Ashland, Ohio 44805.
