DOVER - Jean G. Walters of Dover died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2007, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 73.
Mrs. Walters was born May 30, 1934, in Felton, daughter of the late Gilbert B. and Edith (Lancaster) Gourley.
She lived in Sudlersville, Md., and moved to Dover in 1986.
Mrs. Walters was a cashier for Acme Markets for 33 years, retiring in 1992.
She was a member of the Lioness Club of Dover, where she was past president, past member of the Junior Women"s Club of Sudlersville, and a past vice president of the Sudlersville V.F.C. Ladies Auxiliary.
Mrs. Walters was preceded in death by her husband of 11 years, Robert F. Walters, in 1998; a son, Henry M. Engrem Jr., in 1976; two brothers, Samuel Gourley and John Gourley; and a sister, June Nance.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah E. Schelts and her husband Wayne of Galena, Md.; four stepchildren, Robert A. Walters and his wife Sharon of Centreville, Md., Warren Walters and his wife Linda of Galena, Deborah L. Meredith and her husband Bill of Moreno Valley, Calif., and Pamela W. Boyles of Ellendale; three brothers, Ronald Gourley of Yuma, Ariz., Allen Gourley of Jacksonville, Fla., and Joseph Gourley of Magnolia; a sister, Phyllis Simpson of Mountain View, Ark.; 12 grandchildren, Marshall Schelts, Kyle Schelts, Cody Schelts, Ron Walters, Amy Higgs, Angela Oertly, Julie Oertley, Kasey Walters, Jenna Walters, Joe Boyles, Robert Boyles and Kevin Boyles; several great-grandchildren; and a special friend, George "Bummy" Johnson of Chestertown, and his granddaughter, Heather Johnson.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St., Galena, Md., and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m.
Burial will in Sudlersville Cemetery.
At the request of the family, casual dress is appropriate.
