WILMINGTON - Janis Bennett White of Wilmington died peacefully Friday, Jan. 5, 2007, in Wilmington surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness.
Mrs. White was born in Roxana, to the late George and Elsie Bennett.
She graduated from Selbyville High School and attended Beacom College.
Mrs. White retired from Sears Roebuck Co. after 30 years of service.
She enjoyed life with family and friends at home and at the beach.
Mrs. White was an active member of Hillcrest-Bellfonte United Methodist Church and a member of the Eastern Star Brandywine Chapter 14.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard E. White in 1989.
She is survived by three sons and three daughters-in-law, Bennett and Marianne White, Tyler and Regina White and Chris and Cherie White; six grandchildren, Lyn, Kathleen, Delaney, Avery, Trevor and Erica; a sister-in-law, Odetta Bennett of Roxana; a brother-in-law, Thomas White and his wife, Joan of Snow Hill, Md.
Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday in McCrery Memorial Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Talleyville.
A funeral service will be 10:15 a.m. Monday in Hillcrest-Bellfonte United Methodist Church, Hillcrest and Marsh roads, Wilmington.
An Eastern Star service will be 10 a.m.
Burial will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, New Castle Commons, New Castle, DE 19720.
