DOVER - On the morning of May 10, 2012, in her 90th year on earth, Janet G. Scheel woke up in Heaven and joined her husband of 32 years, Clarence E. "Jake" Scheel, who preceded her in 1975. Born to Vincent and Helene Gulick, Janet grew up with two brothers and two sisters in McDaniel Heights, north of Wilmington Janet graduated from P.S. DuPont High School and Goldey-Beacom Secretarial School. She held secretarial positions within the DuPont Company from 1941 to 1944 and 1982 to 1992, and she was a secretary, receptionist, and switchboard operator for the Claymont School District from 1960 to 1975. Janet is remembered with love and delight for her strong faith in God; loving spirit and unquenchable sense of humor; home-made bread, rolls, and snickerdoodles; well-stocked tool box and expert use of her power drill and cordless screwdriver; exquisite counted cross-stitch pieces that she made for her children and grandchildren; unwavering love for her native state of Delaware; knowledge and appreciation of the game of baseball, the 1980 Phillies in particular; and readiness for adventure as she and Jake took their young family on camping trips to Canada, most of the states east of the Mississippi, and as far west as Texas. In addition to her husband, Janet was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother and sister-in-law, Herbert and Edna Gulick. Janet is survived by her four children, Ellen Scheel, Vince Alexander, and Barbara Scheel, all of Dover, and Phillip Scheel (Karen) of Glen Burnie, Md.; three grandchildren, Michael Scheel (Mary) of Pennington, N.J., Jennifer Peacock (Ryan) of Baltimore, Md., and David Scheel of Glen Burnie, Md.; six great-grandchildren, Meredith and Evan Scheel, and Benjamin, Maxwell, Abigail, and Nathan Peacock; two sisters, Hazel Miller and Beryl Hanna, both of California; brother, John (Bobbie) of New Mexico; and nine nieces and nephews.
