Janet Duffy Hughes

Janet Duffy Hughes passed away on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at the Manor House in Seaford.
Born on July 17, 1928 she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Gilday Duffy. She had moved from Rochester, N.Y. to Dover in 1964 where she became an active member of Holy Cross Church.
She was a co-founder of the Good Samaritans Food Pantry and was a Eucharistic Minister. She was also a volunteer for Delaware Hospice and CASA along with several other organizations as it was so important to Janet to help those in need. She retired from the State of Delaware as Director of Volunteer Services. Since 2012 Janet had been a resident of Manor House in Seaford and a Parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. In addition to volunteering she enjoyed reading, writing poetry and traveling.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, John R. Hughes; along with her daughter, Kathleen; and son. Bobby Hughes.
She is survived by her son and his wife, John and Debbie Hughes of Peshastin, Wash.; her daughter and husband, Patricia and Larry Bonniwell of Seaford; a son and his wife, Kevin and Laurie Hughes of Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren, Beth and Sharon Bonniwell, Robert and Sarah Hughes, Michael and Kristopher Hughes, Jenny Combs and Mary Hamm; 13 great- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Church in Dover where friends are invited to the Visitation starting at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Delaware Hospice, 16 Polly Drummond Center, 2nd floor, Polly Drummond Shopping Center, Newark, DE 19711.
