Lt. Col. USAF Ret. James W. Sanders, 76 DOVER - Lt Col. USAF Ret. James W. Sanders, of Dover, died Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009, at Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. He was 76. He was born Nov. 21, 1933, in Northport, Ala., to the late Manly M. Sanders and Eunice Smalley Sanders. Mr. Sanders retired in 1981 after 24 years with the U.S. Air Force. After retirement he owned and operated Sanders Tree Service. He valued helping others and spending time with his family and friends. He was an outdoorsman, who enjoyed skeet shooting, hunting, 4 wheeling, fishing, canoeing, hayrides, camping and traveling. Mr. Sanders was a member of Christian Fellowship Church, Seaford. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by son-in-law, Paul B. Blackiston. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Virginia L. Sanders of Dover; children, Pamela S. Willis and her husband Gary of Dover, Loretta (Lori) Blackiston of Willow Street, Pa., James W. Sanders, Jr. and his wife Denise of Colo. Springs, Colo., David A. Sanders and his wife Lisa of Dover; grandchildren, Edward, Michael and Gary Willis, Jr., Bryan, Gillian, Spencer Blackiston, Ellen, Collin, Alyssa and Alison Sanders; and his brother, Marion Sanders and his wife Sharon of Ottowa Lake, Mich. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 11, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Interment will be Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963; or American Heart Assoc., 1019 Mattlind Way, Milford, DE 19963. Letters of condolence may be sent, and guestbook signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
