CLAYTON, Del. - James T. Edwards passed away at home on October 21, 2021.
Mr. Edwards was born on January 18, 1940, son of the late John N. and Mary Eva (O'Neal) Edwards. He grew up in Massey, Md. and moved to Delaware in 1966. He worked as an aircraft mechanic at Dover AFB. He went to work for General Motors at their Boxwood assembly plant. Later, he became an independent trucker, retiring after 50 years in 2019. Jim enjoyed NASCAR and NHRA drag racing, but mostly he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Along with his parents; he was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Gloria Jean (Ogle) Edwards; sisters, Elizabeth Masko, Mae Wiest and Virginia Hollett; and a brother Joseph Edwards.
Mr. Edwards is survived by his children, Jeannette T. Mercer (Dr. Thomas Mercer) and James D. Edwards of Dover; sisters, Carolyn Coleman of Massey, Md. and Dorothy Chance (Bill) of Millington, Md.; and extended family, the Dixon Boys.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021 from 12 to 1 p.m. in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St. Galena, Md. where funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. A graveside service and interment will follow in Massey Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to St. Jude Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN. 38105 or First State Animal Center, 32 Shelter Circle, Camden, DE 19934.
