MILFORD - James Ray "Jim" Reed passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014. Mr. Reed was born in Atlantic City, N.J. the son of the late Elmer and Bess (Wells) Reed. Jim was a veteran, serving in the U. S. Air Force during WW II in the 422nd Night Fighter Squadron, which was assigned to the E.T.O. After the war, Jim continued in the Air Force Reserve, retiring as a Major. He was a graduate of N.Y.U. Jim worked as a Special Agent with the F.B.I. for 26 years before retiring in 1978. Prior to moving to Delaware, he was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Rutherford, N.J., where he served as an Elder, a Deacon and Trustee of the church. Jim was a member of the National Carousel Association, the Kent County Archeological Society, the First State Model Railroad Club, and especially enjoyed working as a volunteer tour guide at the Dover Air Force Base Air Mobility Museum for 35 years. He was also involved with the restoration of the B-17 Bomber "Shoo Shoo Baby" at the Dover Air Force Base. Once the bomber's restoration was completed, he had the honor of flying over his home town of Milford. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed his model railroading with his HO model trains and traveling around the world with his wife Helene. During their travels, they attended many Elder Hostels. He was an avid reader, an active member of the Friends of the Milford Library and enjoyed attending the Reformation Lutheran Church's Men's Club monthly luncheons. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his first wife Jane Moser Reed, in 1971. He is survived by his wife, of 40 years Helene A. Reed; children, Nancy Rock and her husband, Bob, of Short Hills, N.J.; Andy Reed and his wife, Lynn, of South Plainfield, N.J.; and Janice Reed and her companion Billy Geib, of Hoboken, N.J.; stepdaughters, Kathy McCarty Morrow and her husband, Lew, of Millerstown, Pa. and Nancy McCarty Sutton and her husband, Bill, of Leesburg, Va.; as well as ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Jim's Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014 at the Reformation Lutheran Church, 613 Lakeview Avenue, Milford, DE. Entombment will be private at the convenience of the family in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, Del. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made in memory of Jim to the AMC Museum Foundation, Inc, 1301 Heritage Rd, Dover AFB DE 19902. Arr. by Lofland Funeral Home, Milford, Del.
