James Norman 'Jim' Sleva, 82
ST. MICHAELS, Md. - James Norman "Jim" Sleva of St. Michaels died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007, in Mallard Bay Care Center, Cambridge. He was 82.
Mr. Sleva was born July 5, 1924, in Philadelphia, son of the late Charles and Marjorie Sleva.
He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1942-48.
Mr. Sleva held many jobs, including working on a tug boat, the Pennsylvania Railroad, for Gulf Oil Co. hauling fenders to the mother ship, as a charter boat captain and as captain of the Woodland Ferry.
He owned and trained horses, and built sulky tract in Florida.
Mr. Sleva also owned and operated charter fishing boats in the Delaware Bay.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William "Sonny" Fox; and a sister and a brother in-law, Dollie and Charlie Corchran.
He is survived by four children, Susan Morgan, James N. Sleva Jr., Rosie Kern and Joanie Crowley; two brothers and their wives, Albert and Shirley Sleva and Robert and Jean Sleva; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his first wife, Anna Mae Sleva; his second wife, Barbara Sleva; six stepchildren, Michael E. Moffett III, Brenda A. Moffett-Porter, John W. Moffett, David W. Moffett, J.R. Moffett and Janelle Allen; 16 step-grandchildren; a stepgreat-grandchild on the way; several nieces and nephews; and his favorite companion, his dog Fusty.
Services will be noon Monday in the Eastern Shore Veteran's Cemetery, Hurlock.
The Rev. David Seymour will officiate.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Easton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5718, 355 Glebe Road, Easton, MD 21601.
