HICKORY, N.C. - James Nelson Ansalvish, Sr., of Hickory, N.C., passed away Monday, March 21, 2022 in Beebe Hospital, Lewes, Del., surrounded by his loving family.
James was born March 19, 1932 in Perryville, Maryland to the late, Herman & Margaret (Price) Ansalvish. He served proudly in the United States Army during the Korean War before enlisting in the Air Force Reserve. James worked for the Chrysler Corporation, for over 30 years, initially as a spray painter then a supervisor before retiring. He was very musically inclined and played the Bass Fiddle for several country western bands. One of his favorite songs was "Wasted Years" by the Calvary Trio.
He was a jack of all trades who loved to tinker with cars in his free time. He was a member of the V.F.W., Moose Lodge, Free & Accepted Masons, of Newark, Del. and of the Winklers Grove Baptist Church, where he was known as "the Candy Man".
In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his wife, of 63 years, Charlotte (Matthews) Ansalvish who passed on March 1, 2022; and his brother, Robert Ansalvish.
He is survived by three children, Linda Chatham, Debra Meadows, and James (Jay) Ansalvish, Jr.; eight grandchildren, Becky Martin, Connie Wiessner, James (Jayme) Ansalvish, III and wife, Leanna, Zachary Ansalvish, Bradley Ansalvish, Jenna Ervin & husband, Alex, Matthew Ansalvish and Heather Mack; his sister, Shirley Arndt, of Newark, Del.; six great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 26, 2022 in the First Baptist Church of Milford, 6062 Old Shawnee Road, Milford; where family and friends may gather from 10-11 a.m.
Fellowship immediately following at the church. Burial will take place in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Hickory, N.C.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Winkler's Grove Baptist Church, 3320 9th Ave. Dr. N.W., Hickory, N.C. 28601.
