James Lane, 83

FELTON - James Lane of Felton died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2007, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 83.

He was born Aug. 28, 1923, in Lancaster, Ohio, son of the late Glenn and Mary (Beard) Lane.

James served his country proudly in the U.S. Air Force for 24 and a half years. He served in World War II, the Berlin Airlift, Korean War and Vietnam.

He was a recipient of the million miler certificate of achievement for flying more than 1 million miles over the world"s air routes in U.S. Air Force aircrafts. He also received a certificate of recognition for Cold War Service. He flew the B17, B26, B24, C54 and C124, and received numerous achievement medals during his service to his country that he loved so much.

After his military career, James worked for the State of Delaware, where he had retired.

He was a member of the Harrington Moose Lodge 534, Post 6009 Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Post 0007, 381st Bomb Group (H) Memorial Association Ridgewell England WWII, and a charter member of the U.S. Air Force memorial.

James will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Lane.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Lane; three children, Michele Hansen and her husband Jeffrey, Darren Lane and his wife Valerie, and Jennifer Carello and her husband Joseph; a brother, Richard Lane; a sister, Glenna Arter; his grandchildren, Derek Ward and his wife Tara, Kristin Ward, Micheala Lane, Ethan Carello and Haley Hansen; and his great-grandchildren, Connor Ward and Chase Ward.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time.

Burial with full military honors will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.
