GALENA, Md. - James F. Hurtt Jr., of Federal Hill Farm, Galena, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008, at his home. He was 85.

Mr. Hurtt was born Nov. 9, 1922, on Federal Hill Farm, son of the late James F. Sr. and Ruth (McArthur) Hurtt.

He was a 1942 graduate of West Nottingham Academy.

Mr. Hurtt was a lifetime farmer in the Galena area, and for the last 30-plus years lived and tilled Federal Hill Farm.

He was a member of the Kent County Farm Bureau and the Kent Museum.

Mr. Hurtt enjoyed reading and his dogs.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Lou (Aiken) Hurtt; four daughters, Ruth Anna Klyver of Moyock, N.C., Margaret Hurtt and Mary Hurtt Tazewell, both of Arlington, Va., and Jean Hurtt Taylor of Galena; a brother, Woodland Hurtt of Hagerstown; a granddaughter, Susan V. Klyver; and a great-granddaughter, Kaylee Klyver Overton.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Georgetown Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Arrangements are by the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech.
