GREENSBORO, Md. - James F. Cooper, Sr. passed away peacefully on Friday, Jul. 21, 2017, at the Memorial Hospital in Easton, Md. surrounded by his family.
Born at home in Caroline County on Oct. 4, 1939, Jim was the son of the late Robert Lee Cooper and Pearl Reynolds Cooper. He was a 1957 graduate of Caroline High School in Denton.
A veteran of the United States Air Force, Jim proudly served his country from 1957 until 1967 during which he did a Tour of Duty in Vietnam. He was a former police officer for the towns of Greensboro and Denton, Md. and he worked for and retired from Kent County. Jim loved sports and had been a Little League umpire for over 15 years for Maryland and Delaware. In addition, he took great pride in his vegetable gardens through the years and had been the President of the Milford Farmers Market. Also, as Commander of VFW Memorial Post 7937 in Greensboro, Jim was the youngest Post Commander in the State of Maryland. He had also served as Commander of Harrington American Legion CKRT Post 7.
Jim had a natural ability to make you laugh. He loved his family and will be dearly missed by them. While serving in England, he met and married his wife of 56 years, Margaret J. Cooper of Greensboro. Together, they had and raised five children, James Cooper, Jr. (Denise), Beverly Hutson (Wayne), Dean Cooper (Nancy), Karen Kibler (Gene), and Debbie Cooper (fiancé – Bryan). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Cody, Cady, Dean, and Jarrett Cooper, Frank and Chad Seigler, Gene Kibler II, Amber, Tiffani, and Ciera McNeil; and great-grandchildren, Ray, Cody, Kiersten, Cole, Shane, Julian, Ty, Sailor, Sophie, Corbin, and bailey. He is also survived by two sisters, Dorothy Breeding and June Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Paul, Carl, Robert, and Herman Cooper; three sisters, Susie Kurtz, Mary Wooters, and Elizabeth Wilson; and also an infant grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jul. 27, 2017 at the Moore Funeral Home, P.A., 12 S. Second St. in Denton, Md. where friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday evening. Rev. Paul Merritt will officiate. The interment will be in the Concord Cemetery. To offer online condolences, please visit moorefuneralhomepa.com.
