James Evan 'Voss' Vodvarka, 52

BRIDGEVILLE - James Evan "Voss" Vodvarka of Bridgeville, formerly of Hartly, died suddenly Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. He was 52.

Voss was born Jan. 15, 1955, in Hartly, to the late James Jr. and Verna A. (Slack) Vodvarka.

He grew up in Hartly and then raised his own family there.

He graduated from Dover High School in 1973, where he was on the wrestling team.

Voss worked for Chesapeake Utilities as a distribution manager for the last 34 years.

He played slow pitch softball on several different teams for many years and then began coaching and whatever else was needed in the Marydel Hartly Little League as soon as his children began playing.

Voss was an avid sports fan. His favorite teams were the ones his children were on.

He was a life member of Hartly Fire Co., where he held several offices. He was also a life member of the Hartly United Methodist Church.

Voss was a kind and gentle person and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his son, Kevin A. Vodvarka, on Aug. 8, 2005.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Carol L. (Emering) Vodvarka; a son and his wife, Eric and Stephanie Vodvarka, and their daughter, Kayleigh, all of Bridgeville; a daughter, Kristy Vodvarka of Bridgeville; his brother, Larry Vodvarka of Hartly; four sisters, Bonnie Vodvarka of Newark, Nancy Young and her husband Harold of Hartly, Joanna Vodvarka and her husband Gene McLaughlin of Wilmington and Gail Brynes and her husband Joseph of New Castle; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover, where friends may call two hours prior.

Interment will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Marydel Hartly Little League, P.O. Box 204, Marydel, DE 19964; or the Hartly Fire Co., P.O. Box 28, Hartly, DE 19953.
