James Elmer Cole Sr., 85

RIDGELY, Md. - James Elmer Cole Sr. of Ridgely died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2007, in Caroline Home for Hospice, Denton. He was 85.

Mr. Cole was born Nov. 12, 1921, in Ridgely, son of the late Charles H. and Grace Covey Cole.

He served during World War II as a combat military policeman.

Mr. Cole was a foreman for the State Highway Administration, retiring in 1983 after 30 years of service.

He was a recipient of the Purple Heart Medal. He was a former member of American Legion Post 29, Denton and the Easton Moose Lodge 1520.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel (Horney) Cole on March 27, 2001.

He is survived by a son, James Cole Jr. of Bridgetown; a daughter, Jeannie DeFord of Ridgely; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Fleegle and Helfenbein Funeral Home, P.A., Greensboro.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Fleegle and Helfenbein Funeral Home, Greensboro.

Burial will be in Ridgely Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Caroline Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 362, Denton, MD 21629.
