MILFORD - James E. Oliver, of Milford, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, in the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. He was 69. He was born in McKeesport, Pa., to the late Hugh and Margaret Oliver. Mr. Oliver served his country proudly in the United States Navy and Air Force. Through the military, he travelled all over the world, visiting every continent. He served in Vietnam, Bay of the Pigs in Cuba, and other conflicts, before his retirement from the Air Force. Mr. Oliver worked as a telecommunications operator before he retired from the Department of Corrections-State of Delaware. In his spare time, he enjoyed baseball and being a part of the Milford Little League where he mentored his grandson. He also enjoyed going to Ocean City and visiting his family in Pittsburgh Steelers territory. Recently, through his illness, he shared a close relationship to the special nurses ("His Girls") and staff at the Tunnel Cancer Center in Rehoboth. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather who loved to spoil his grandchildren and will be sadly missed. Mr. Oliver was a charter member of the Milford Moose Lodge, and a member of the Harrington Moose Lodge where he obtained the Pilgrim Degree of Merit in 1995. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard H. Oliver. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Joyce Oliver of Milford; son, William Oliver of Milford; daughter and son-in-law, Camela and John Wyatt Jr. of Milford; sister, Mary Louise Trapana of North Huntington, Pa.; brother and sister-in-law, William D. and Mary Oliver of North Versailles, Pa.; grandchildren, Jamie, Jason, and Michael Wyatt; great-grandson, Mason; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Monday, Feb. 23 in Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, where visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Sunday. Interment will be in Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Millsboro.
