James Delmas 'Turk' Orvis Jr., 70
CLAYTON - James Delmas "Turk" Orvis Jr., passed away Friday, Oct. 24, 2008, in Bayhealth Medical Center of Milford. He was 70. Turk was born July 27, 1938 in Dover, the son of Esther Shortall Orvis of Clayton, and the late James Delmas Orvis Sr. He worked in the auto parts industry for the Ennis and Deakyne Auto Dealership and for Big A Autoparts, both in Smyrna, for several years before retirement. Turk was a United States Navy veteran. Turk loved horse racing and enjoyed betting on the horses at Dover Downs. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a son, James Delmas Orvis III. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Gloria Jean McFadden Orvis; a daughter, Teresa Lynn Felty and her husband Steven Sr. of Frederica; grandson, James Delmas Orvis IV of Felton; a granddaughter, Stephanie Lynn Felty of Frederica; and a daughter-in-law, Annette Orvis of Felton. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered noon Tuesday in St. Polycarp's Roman Catholic Church, 135 Ranson Lane, Smyrna. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 S. Main St., Smyrna. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Smyrna. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association, 100 W. 10th St., Suite 1002, Wilmington, DE 19801.
