GREENWOOD - James Allen "Jim" Reed went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016 at the Caroline Hospice Home in Denton, Md. He was born on Oct. 23, 1935 in Denton, Md., on the family farm to the late Roland M. and Grace Andrew Reed. Jim worked at the DuPont plant in Seaford as a mechanic for 35 years, retiring in 1992. That same year, he started Finishing Touch, a house painting business, which he operated until 2015. He had a passion for stock car racing and raced his vintage car "141" at Georgetown, Delmar, and Potomac racetracks. He was a huge NASCAR fan and he attended the Daytona 500 every year from 1972 to 2014. His prize possession was his 1953 Ford pick-up truck, which he drove regularly. He loved his Lord and was a member of Lifeway Church of God in Bridgeville for 54 years. Jim loved to travel with his late wife, Doris, in their RV all over the country. He would always attend all his grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's events. He was a great father and grandfather. He will be sorely missed by his family and many friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris, of 56 years who passed in 2012; a son, James Alan "Hump" Reed, also in 2012; and three brothers, Norris "Speedy" Reed, Robert Reed, and Phillip Reed. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Reed; his two daughters, Janet (Bryan) Hibbs, Sr., of Denton, Md., and Jacquie Reed, of Greenwood; three grandchildren, Brooke (David) McMahan, of Preston, Md., Bryan, Jr. (Jennifer) Hibbs, of Greenwood, and Brittany (James) McCracken, of Preston, Md.; eight great-grandchildren, Cameron, Emily, Kai, Karli, Chloe, Brielle, Samuel, and Nalani; three siblings, William Reed, Elma Jean Neal, and Jo Ellen Smith; and his faithful dog companion, Barney. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016 at 6 p.m. at Lifeway Church of God, 7046 Seashore Hwy, Bridgeville, DE 19933. Friends may call from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Caroline Hospice Home, 613 So. 5th Avenue, Denton, MD 21629. Arrangements will be handled by Fleischauer Funeral Home, Greenwood.
