Jacqueline 'Jackie' Spayd Kaercher, 78
BOWERS BEACH - Jacqueline "Jackie" Spayd Kaercher of Bowers Beach died Friday, Dec. 8, 2006, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover, surrounded by her family. She was 78.
Mrs. Kaercher was born Oct. 23, 1928, in Denton, Md., daughter of the late Russell and Louise (Ferguson) Dean.
She was a waitress for Dover Diner, Heartbreak Hotel, Donovan's Dock, Betty's Lunch and the Hidi-Ho. She had also worked for Playtex.
Mrs. Kaercher was a life member of the Bowers Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Harrington Moose Lodge, AARP, Frederica Senior Center and Saxton United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed going to Dover Downs and Midway Slots, playing bingo and going out to dinner with her husband.
From 1992 to 2003, Mrs. Kaercher spent her days taking care of her grandson, Brandon Haggerty, who was born with cerebral palsy. She formed a special bond with him because she spent so much time with him. Thanks to her he has grown up with much love and was always cared for.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold D. Spayd, in 1976; a daughter, Vivian Spayd; a sister, Doris Pleasanton; her mother, Louise Dean; her father and stepmother, Russell and Susie Dean; and a grandson, Craig R. Rust.
She is survived by her husband of 29 years, George Kaercher Jr.; four daughters and four sons-in-law, Patricia and John Moyer Jr. of Bowers Beach, Debbie and Coleman Morris Jr. of Frederica, Lida Ann Rust of Harrington and Randall Rust of Felton and Shirley and Phillip Pennington Sr. of Bowers Beach; two sisters, Beverly Dean of Harrington and Shirley Biddle of Camden; 12 grandchildren, John Moyer III, Kevin Moyer, Coleman Morris III, Lindsay (Morris) Osika, Tammy Green, Tisha Boyd, Tara Geyer, Phillip Pennington Jr., Adam Pennington, Tyler Pennington, Brandon Haggerty and Alyssa Pennington; and 12 great-grandchildren, Kallie Moyer, Karinne Moyer, Kurt Moyer, Cael Moyer, Kyra Moyer, Jacqueline Moyer, Damian Moyer, Coleman Morris IV, Jordan Davila, Ryan Davila, Zackry Hall and Randi Ellen Boyd.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Barratt's Chapel, Frederica.
