CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Dr. Jack Turner Cecil, of Chestertown, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2007. He was 87.
He was born Sept. 11, 1920.
An accomplished biologist specializing in virology and pathology, Dr. Cecil helped develop the Sabin oral vaccine for polio.
He worked as a marine virologist for the New York Zoological Society at the New York Aquarium.
Most recently, Dr. Cecil served as director of pathology for New Jersey's Department of Health, where, among other responsibilities, he conducted research on HIV and other infectious and communicable diseases.
He was the beloved husband of Eileen Davis Cecil and father of Kathleen Cecil.
He is survived by his brothers, Joseph of Austin, Texas, and David of Kingsville, Texas; as well as an extended family.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Jan. 18, at Heron Point Retirement Community, Chestertown.
Donations are suggested to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International.
