VIOLA - Jack Edgar Detwiler, of Viola, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010, at Capitol Healthcare Center, Dover. He was 82. Mr. Detwiler was born Jan. 14, 1928, in Altoona, Pa., to the late Edgar Gilbert Detwiler and Ruth Else Detwiler. He served in the United States Air Force during World War II. After the service he went to work for Playtex as a tool and die maker retiring after 25 years. Mr. Detwiler then went to work for the State of Delaware Fish and Wildlife for 20 years. He was instrumental in bringing back wild turkeys to the state of Delaware; he also taught hunters instruction for the state. Mr. Detwiler enjoyed hunting deer and turkey and belonged to the Wild Turkey Federation and Wesley United Methodist Church, Dover. He was an eagle scout and was always interested in scouting. Mr. Detwiler is survived by his wife of 59 yrs, Candace Detwiler of Viola; three daughters, Jacqueline Ellwanger of Greensboro, Md., Charlene Giovanniello of NewBern, N.C., Robyn Michaud of Viola; brother, John Detwiler of Oregan; two sisters, Margaret Dorefice of Altoona, Pa., and Joann Amaral of Portland, Ore.; and four granddaughters, Melissa and Lena Ellwanger, Tabatha Detwiler and Kristin Palach. Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010, at Wesley United Methodist Church, St. Paul's Chapel, 209 S. State Street, Dover, DE 19901. Interment will be private. The family requests no flowers be sent unless they are artificial. Letters of condolence may be sent, and guestbook signed at www.torbertfuneral.com.
