NEW CASTLE - Jack D. West Sr. of Holloway Terrace and the New Castle area passed away Friday, March 2, 2007, in Christiana Care-Christiana Hospital, Newark. He was 85.
Mr. West served his country faithfully in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.
He retired from Anchor Motors as a welder.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed tinkering with cars.
Mr. West belonged to the Weston Senior Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arney Katherine (Hudson) West and Philip West; his beloved wife, Josephine Ann West, in 1986; a daughter, Lorraine C. Montgomery; and four brothers, William West, Larrimore R. West, Philip West and Harold West.
He is survived by three sons and three daughters-in-law, Jack D. Jr. and Sara West of Bear, David P. and Patricia K. West of Newark, and Gary Lee and Linda West of California; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Pearl L. and James Hosey of Virginia, and Debbie and Andrew Pierce of Millsboro; two sisters, Dorothy Pippin of Wyoming and Jeannette Pippin of Cheswold; 20 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Chapel at Gracelawn Memorial Park, Du Pont Highway, New Castle, where friends may call one hour earlier.
Burial will be in the adjoining memorial park.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Union United Methodist Church, 345 Schoolbell Road, Bear, DE 19701.
