SLAUGHTER BEACH - J. Louise Fassel, of Slaughter Beach, died Sunday, April 13, 2008, at home, surrounded by her loving family. She was 78.

Mrs. Fassel was born in Frederica, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Rachel (Kemp) Boone.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Fassel was a charter member of the Memorial Fire Co. of Slaughter Beach, serving the community for more than 50 years.

She was a member of the Milton Veterans of Foreign Wars 6984 Ladies Auxiliary.

She was known for her crochet work. Each year she would crochet doilies and donate them to the Delaware Hospice Festival of Trees.

Mrs. Fassel was also an avid supporter of her granddaughter, who was involved with the Special Olympics.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Conrad H. "Connie" Fassel; a daughter, Sharon Lee Brown, in 1994; a son, Edward Lawrence Fassel in 2002; a granddaughter, Sheila Bowers in 1992; two brothers, Lawrence Boone and Kenneth Boone; and a sister, Evelyn Lane.

She is survived by her daughter, Janet L. Jerread and her husband Larry of Millsboro; two granddaughters, Christina Stiles, of Cape Charles, Va., and Holli Wood of Millsboro; a grandson, Justin Wood of Millsboro; two great-grandsons, Aaron and Nathan Bowers; a sister, Fay Freeman and her husband Ray of Frederica; and a brother, Daniel Boone of Clarksburg, W.Va.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in the Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Ave., Milford, where friends may call after noon.

Burial will be in Barratt's Chapel Cemetery, Bay Road, Frederica.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
