Irene Jeanette Langrell, 85

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Irene Jeanette Langrell of Greensboro, N.C., died Sunday, June 17, 2009, at Moses Cone Hospital. She was 85.

Formerly of Frederica, Mrs. Langrell has resided in Greensboro for the past 16 years.

Before moving to Greensboro, she worked for the United States Postal Service. She retired as the assistant postmaster in Frederica after 25-plus years of dedicated service.

She moved to Greensboro in 1991 to live out her life with loved ones, who cared for her until her passing.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Norman Langrell; three sisters, Laura Heller Davidson and Frances Elizabeth Ferrill, both of Philadelphia, and Martha Ackerman of Norwood, Pa.; and one brother, Albert French of Milford.

She is survived by her daughter, Carol Hagey and her husband, Robert, of Greensboro; two granddaughters, Laura Rankin of Greensboro and Diane Whitlock and her husband, Phil, of Hilton Head, S.C.; three great-grandchildren, David Everhart and Christopher Whitlock, both of Hilton Head, S.C., and Kendall Rankin of Greensboro.

We will all miss our card games and the laughter we shared with her.

Mrs. Langrell"s family wishes to extend a special "thank you" to Ben and Carol Parke and George and Tonya Simmons and family, and another special "thank you" to Tyler for his loving care.

A gathering of friends was held at Forbis and Dick Guilford Chapel.

Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor"s choice.
