Ina B. Sanders, 70

DOVER - Ina B. Sanders, of Dover, departed this life on Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, in the Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover, after a lengthy illness. She was 70.

She was born the daughter of Anna Perry and the late Andrew Bryant, on Nov. 1, 1938, in Cordova, Md.

Ina received her education in the public school system of Easton, Md., graduating from the Robert Russa Moton High School in 1958.

She received the bachelor of arts degree in June 1962 from the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore, Princess Anne, Md.

In December 1979, she received the Master's degree in education from Salisbury State College, Salisbury, Md.

Ina taught in the school district of Maryland for five years.

She moved to Delaware and was employed by the state of Delaware Capital School District for 30 years until sickness incapacitated her.

She was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church and sang with the Combined Choir and served on the Kitchen Committee and the Missionary Society for several years.

Ina was the local president of the National Council of Negro Women, Peninsula Section of Delaware for many years until her health failed.

She was a member of the Pride of Dover Temple 784, Order of Eastern Stars, O.H.A. and was a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.

Ina received the following certificates and awards: The Leadership Training Workshop Certificate, offered by the National Council of Negro Women, Inc, held at the University of the District of Columbia; an Achievement Certificate for devoted service from the Pride of Dover Temple 784; Awarded The Past President's Honor in June 1983, from the Tri State Association of Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia Improved Benevolent Protective Order of Elks of the World; received the Past Grand Daughter Rulers' Degree from the Past Grand Rulers Council in Los Angeles in 1986; received a Life Membership in the National Council of Negro Women, Inc.; and was awarded the State of Delaware Certificate of Service for 20 years of faithful service on Nov. 16, 1989.

She was preceded in death was her father, three brothers and two sisters.

She leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Anna Perry, Dover; two sons, Charles Gibson of Waynesville, Mo. and Reginald Sanders, Smyrna; a very special friend, Abraham Ramos of Dover; two grandchildren, Charles Nathaniel Gibson III of Greensboro, N.C., Ronald Gibson of Taylor, Texas; three sisters, Doris and her husband Willie Thurman of Blytheville, Ariz., Rosella Bryant of Dover, Sadie Forsythe, Star, Md.; one uncle, Charles Sr. and his wife Lillian Jackson of Dover; one aunt, Rosella Jackson of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Viewing will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday in the Bennie Smith Funeral Home, 717 W. Division St., Dover.

Funeral services will be noon Saturday in the Calvary Baptist Church, Queen and Fulton streets, Dover.

Interment will be in the Whatcoat Cemetery, Dover.
